PALPA Stops sending return instructions enclosed with PALPA stickers
Palpa stops sending sorting and return instructions enclosed with Palpa sticker orders as of 1st April 2016.
Returning correctly
The appropriate sorting of return packages is essential for both the reuse of the material and for paying the refunds.
Cans
Use PALPA manual bag for returns. Don´t return other beverage packages in the same bag or have garbage in it.
Plastic bottles
Use PALPA manual bag for returns. Don´t return other beverage packages in the same bag or have garbage in it.
NB! Only plastic bottles with PALPAs deposit marking.
Recyclable glass bottles
Return in 240 l plastic container with lid. Other glass material, porcelain, ceramics or garbage can´t be returned in the container.
NB! You can never return glass bottles in a bag. Pieces of broken glass can be a large security risk for the driver and for the personnel in the processing plant.
If the return is not in compliance with PALPA’s instructions, the deposit refunds of the return may not be paid.
Remember to follow Palpas sorting and return instructions in all returns.
Return rates for 2015
Return rate was 95 % for deposit based beverage cans, 92 % for plastic bottles and 89 % for recyclable glass bottles. Return rate for refillable glass bottles administered by Ekopullo Ry was circa 98 %.
Finnish return rates for deposit-based beverage packages are very high and top class in international comparison.
We at PALPA would like to thank all Finns for environment friendly and conscious behaviour.
Updates to return system rules
29.01.2016
Palpa has prepared updates to return system rules during 2015. The return systems have each started during different decades, and thus updates and harmonizations were considered necessary.
The updated rules are effective from 1 February 2016.
The updated rules are better suited to today’s return system operations. The updates do not cause any major changes in normal operations and no changes in the operational instructions are made.
Issues in rules have been reorganized and presented according to operational chronology, and similar features in the systems have been harmonized in the texts. Many definitions have been specified, new definitions have been added and some terms have been renamed. For example, a Deposit Payer is now called a Member.
Issues belonging to the operational instructions for the return system or official regulations have been removed from the rules. In these cases, the rules refer to instructions available at our website or to official regulations.
We invite you to read our new rules in the Material bank on our website.

Palpa Recycling fees beginning at 1.1.2016
29.10.2015
The recycling fee for beverage cans will decrease by 15% (0,0165 cents).
The change in recycling fee is due to favourable development in aluminium recycling market including the market price outlook.
The recycling fees for plastic bottles will decrease by 7% in all categories.
PET plastics market decline bottomed out in the spring of 2015 and the economy of the return system has stabilized due the positive progress in material sales. Also, there is a positive development of the overall costs. The share of bottle returns via reverse vending machines has increased further and saved counting and processing costs.
The recycling fees for glass bottles will remain on the same level as in 2015.
The financial situation of glass bottle return system is still challenging. The cost increase caused by an increased volume is compensated by more efficient operations and positive development of the overall costs.
The Finnish consumers are still returning all beverage containers with excellent return rates that are world class in international comparison.
The new prices are available on PALPA web site.

About PALPA glass containers
As the summer season is over we would like you to take a look at your stock of glass containers.
If you have unusable or broken glass containers in storage, please return them to your beverage supplier marked with a PALPA sticker.
When you return an empty container, please notify it separately to the driver. The container deposit will be credited also for broken containers.
